GCD studios and Scrapbooking from the Inside Out!

Okay so almost a month ago, GCD Studios had a giveaway... well I usually check all the blogs I follow for updates on the blogger dashboard... I never saw an update for them for quite awhile but I didn't think much of it...

Until Heidi from GCD emailed me to tell me I won and ask for my address. After I sent it, I went to their blog and sure enough there it was back in September... the post that had my name in it. Man did I feel silly!

The giveaway was a kit from Scrapbooking from the Inside Out. Now ordinarily I don't go buy kits... I most likely will now after receiving this one yesterday!

I felt like the box was the Mary Poppins bag of postal boxes... I just kept pulling things out. Oh and such absolutely gorgeous things they are!!

The photos on here don't do these papers justice.. the color is soo warm and yummy!

There are a few sheets of paper that I am going to have a hard time cutting out of this pack!!

Here are just a few close ups to show some of the great textures and shine in this kit..

(this paper below is the orange one in the top row of the full photo.. not sure why my photo makes it yellow and brown though...)
I just want to thank Heidi from GCD and Rachael from Scrapbooking from the Inside Out for this gorgeous kit! I can't tell you how much I love each and every piece of it!!!!

A little mama and baby boy scrappin...

I haven't been getting much scrapping done lately.. I've been spending more time playing with my camera and photo shop than with paper :P

But I did manage to get week #40's sketch from 52 sketches 52 weeks

This photo is from April of 2008, I have had the print made since May of 08. Many times I pulled this one out but just couldn't get it on a page... never found papers I thought looked right.

Until Stacy over at Creating My Everyday sent me some really fabulous Luxe papers..

These orange and blue ones just jumped out at me for this photo! As did Julie's sketch for last week... so here is my take on the sketch ( I stuck pretty close and didn't veer off too far this time).

Now on to me and my boy scrapping :D

Well I put the glue on and he sort of pushed the paper and photo down... and hesitantly put the stickers on LOL

He's 2, and has some sensory issues going on... so the fact that he touched any of it at all is progress for us here :D

Look at that concentration!

Taking a glance at his finished page.

And TA DAAA! A work of art!

A little birthday project

I made this a couple of weeks ago for my cousins 16th birthday.

Nothing fancy but a simple little wood bag, maybe to put pens/pencils in?

And a 4X10 notepad with a clear cover :D

Happy 16th "A" hope you had a good one!

Maya Road

Maya Road goodness.

A week or two ago Maya Road held a giveaway on their facebook page.

Once they hit 1500 fans they would pull out one of those 1500 names for a prize!
And wahoo I hit the jackpot! They sent SOO much stuff, not only that I had it the day after I emailed them my address! Talk about quick mailing!

There are soo many fun things in this pack that they sent.. but you know there are always things you may not use.. so a couple of friends were passed on some Maya Road goodness too :D

I just wanted to say THANK YOU to Maya Road!! I couldn't believe this awesome package I got!

They do giveaways on their blog all the time and if this was any indication of what they normally do for giveaways you should totally not pass it by!!

THANK YOU again Maya Road!

Soo behind... lol

I have been such a bad blogger! I'm SOO sorry it has taken me soo long to get to comments and a few emails! Thanks for the congrats on the publication! I'm still super excited about it, and getting a little impatient to get my copy of the magazine and my project back! Hopefully it won't be TOO much longer!

I haven't gotten a lot of layouts done lately.. Mostly I've been spending a little more time focusing on taking photos and learning photoshop! That in itself is really time consuming!!

I will share some photos another day...

Today though I will share a layout I made this week.

It is based off the September sketch at Kraft Girls Kits

I also will have to post a photo later of my goodies from Maya Road. On Facebook they had a fan contest. Once they hit 1500 fans they drew a name for a prize. First off they must have mailed it RIGHT after I emailed my address because it got here really fast! Second OH HOLY CHIPBOARD... they sent SOO much chipboard plus a few other odds and ends! So excited about that!

I will try to get some things posted here soon that I have done in the past couple of weeks (although there isn't a lot at all).

Published :D, a layout and I won some goodies!

I'm soo excited to finally see this in print (well online print anyway - I haven't gotten my hard copy yet!)

Simply Handmade magazine -- the Aug/Set 09 issue
has my altered dress project that I made quite awhile ago in it!

Page 90 and 91 has my dress on it, the pages 92 and 93 I believe have a step by step tutorial with photos that they did for the publication!

This just is super exciting for me... I've submitted certain projects or layouts off and on for over 3 years and this is my FIRST publication!! :D

I don't do any of my projects with the intention of submitting, but if I have something I am really proud of and it fits a call... I always submit :D

The dress, for anyone who is interested is a shape made from MDF that you can purchase from Say It With Letters.

If you like altering things... that is the place to go - Deb's shapes are soo smooth and easy to work with... and SOO MUCH FUN! She has TONS of different shapes, in a huge size range... and she also has letters and numbers in different fonts and sizes!
The best thing is - they are extremely reasonable as far as price goes!
So head on over and visit their blog and etsy shop - you will not be disappointed!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here is a layout I did yesterday with one of my favorite Scenic Route papers :D I just LOVE the color.

This is Mikey - Dave's oldest son... he's just hitting those awkward years so I wanted to document some of the little things about him this summer :D

I never like my handwriting on layouts... to me it always looks sloppy. But it is done and I'm not changing it now! LOL.

Heehee I ran out of black E's, so I threw in some puffy thickers and ended up really liking them on there!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A week or two ago Staci over at Create My Everyday had a giveaway of some extra papers and things from LUXE and I won!
I received my prize box today in the mail... and let me tell you those are some absolutely YUMMY papers!!!!

Thanks soo much Staci! I love ALL of it!

Catching up with 32/52 and a Pencil Lines layout...

I haven't posted in quite awhile!

I have a handful of layouts that I need to photograph and get posted but I wanted to get this one on here for this weeks 52 sketches 52 weeks challenge

Here is sketch #32

I had fun with this one... I don't do girly pages very often anymore.. but a couple of weeks ago I took Dave's older two kiddos out for a mini photo shoot

We had a blast and I got a ton of great photos of them!

So little by little I will get them edited and scrapped along with photos of my 2 year old.

The circles were originally all going to be hand stitched but after I pierced all the holes I opted not to do any sewing... I liked the look it had with out any thread.

She is soo much fun to photograph :D

This is just one of those little Maya Road chipboard people painted white and then covered in pink stickles.

Here is a layout I did using sketch #145 from Pencil Lines

I love these 2 photos of my little guy... these are only from last October and he looks soo different to me now.

Growing up too fast....

Falling behind... LOL

Sorry.... bad blogging here LOL.

I have at least 5 layouts done... just not had much of a chance to photograph them and get them on here (sadly enough two of them were for blog challenges from last week... lol I guess they didn't get entered!)

I've spent a lot of time playing with Photoshop and Gimp lately... trying to understand them a bit better. Also been doing a lot of playing on my camera.

Tomorrow I am dragging my boyfriends two kiddos all over creation with me to play with getting some fun photos of them. Hopefully I can get at least close to what I have in mind :)

I will probably post them before I get to posting layouts...

For those of you who have emailed recently or left me a comment that needed to be acknowledged.. I promise I am not ignoring you! I will get to them next week :D

Hope all is well with everyone and everyone is feeling creative!

Sketch 26... and a double page layout...

Sketch 26 is up at 52 Sketches 52 Weeks

here is the sketch

Here is my take on it. I stayed pretty close to the sketch this time.

I am pretty happy with the above layout

Then there is this layout. I don't know what I don't like about it... It just didn't fall together easy or as smoothly as I would like... so I haven't finished it up as far as the jounaling yet.. I'm not sure if I want to do something else to it or just scrap it and start over.

Sketch #25 ---- talkin to pap pap

Sketch 25 is up over at 52 Sketches 52 Week!

I haven't gotten too much into that bracketed shape on papers.. .I don't mind them on a smaller scale like journaling spots... but they never seem to work with what I am doing in the large scale.

So I ended up not using that shape on this layout at all.

Here is my take on the sketch.

I stayed fairly simple... I have been struggling with these 2 photos for awhile now... because of the 3 predominate colors not seeming to go together well with any paper (especially any patterned paper)

So I stayed away from anything with too strong of a print, and just stuck to these little white polka dots on this Scenic Route paper, the border sticker is also Scenic route.

I used some puffy Thickers for the title, a Teresa Collins journal spot.... and some more stamped craft foam (the hearts)

I wanted to keep this one simple... didn't want to overwhelm the photos too much (yet I still feel like they get lost a bit.. like I did too much on this page... but it is what it is!!)

Thanks for stopping by to take a look!

THANK YOU!!!

I just wanted to say a HUGE THANK YOU to Suzy Plantamura and Jamie Harper!!

Awhile back, on Suzy's blog - she had showcased some really great projects made with some Teresa Collins goodies that Jamie had sent her.

Jamie agreed to also send out a goodie bag to one of Suzy's readers who left a comment.

That was me!!! I figured (and only expected) a small goodie pack... HOLY COW they sent the motherload of Teresa Collins papers!!!

I am SOO excited.. I LOVE EVERY SINGLE THING you sent!! Thank you soo much!! I can't wait to start playing!

Got Sketch #85

I feel like I am on a roll this week. I never get this many done in one week! (Sometimes not even in one MONTH!)

I decided to participate in the Got Sketch? challenge

here is this weeks Sketch - # 85

Here is my take... and yes it's not exactly like the sketch... but it worked for my photos that I wanted to use :)

I used a bunch of different things on this layout.

Basic Grey patterned papers
Sassafrass Lass red scalloped border
Scenic Route - Kraft paper
I can't remember who makes the light blue strip... Creative Imaginations maybe?
The journal spot is Teresa Collins
Jenni Bowlin chipboard button
Scenic Route sticker
some Thickers :)
and a random raffle ticket cut in half to make a photo corner

The only thing I am not happy about with this layout is the journaling.. .I misjudged how much space I needed... and had to go off the journal spot, which of course is driving me nuts.

But otherwise I'm pleased.

Thanks for stopping by and having a look!

A Star is Born

I worked a little on Wednesday on this one and finished it up today!

This one is TWO different challenges combined for me.

First Scrap Queens -- a somewhat local meetup group has several challenges going on for June. One of them is a 4 font challenge, which worked perfect for my title :)

The second is June's Mix it Up challenge
I think this is the first time I've participated over there ( I usually just lurk)

Here was the sketch provided for June, the twist was you had to use at least 5 stars and they must be made of different things (examples: foil, pp, cork, metal, ribbon, etc.).

I know I will probably get a comment here about not sticking exactly to the sketch.

Do you know I have gotten 3 separate comments from an "anonymous" commenter about when I do sketches - not sticking to the sketch exactly?! Who cares?!?!

I look at it this way.. a sketch is just an idea... what you do with it is your business. If you want to stick to it exactly that's fine... but I look at it as *JUST* a starting point... what you do after is your choice. There are times I love a sketch soo much - that I don't change up anything about it. Then there are other times.. I look at a sketch and I immediately get my own "version" in my head and that's what I do.

Then there are times like this one... I started out fairly close to the sketch and then somewhere along the way.. well it took on a life of it's own.

That's the nice thing about scrapbooking. There are no real rules well maybe 5 stars.... LOL but what you do with those 5 stars is completely up to you!

Okay enough of my little rant. LOL.

Here is the sketch.

Here is my take on the challenges :)

Let me start with the curved lines... those originally were going to be hand stitched BUT not thinking I drew my lines on the back of the paper (the flat side of textured paper) and I started piercing the holes through from the back instead of the front... big OOPS.

Well then I decided I liked the oops! So I left it as is, without stitching. I lightly brushed over it with a light blue chalk ink.. just enough color to bring them out but not soo much that they became overpowering.

Onto my stars... the five different kinds.

1. Chipboard stars covered with patterned paper.

2. Terry cloth star ( I cut up a bib that Nick can't wear anymore)

3. Foam stars -- craft foam heated and then stamped with an un-inked stamp to leave the impression of the stamp, then I went back and cut them out

4. Sequin stars -- these were in a pack of confetti... I went through and picked out all of the stars and a few silver regular sequins.

5. Angelina Fiber stars (I think in a couple of weeks I may set up a tutorial on here about using Angelina on paper craft projects)

It was hard to get a photo of it and catch the sparkle the fibers have .. but I did my best.

As for my 4 font challenge, here is what I used:

The "a" and "is" are both Thickers (vinyl and chipboard - 2 different fonts)
The "star" and "born" are both chipboard lettering (obviously different fonts/sizes) both painted white.

Thanks for looking!

Sketch 24 at 52/52

I feel like I'm on a roll here LOL... 2 layouts in 2 days!

It's 52 sketches 52 weeks time again
here is sketch 24

I liked the sketch as soon as I saw it.. I take soo many photos that sometimes these 1 photo sketches don't work for me unless I changed them to accommodate more photos.

I stayed sort of close to it this time... although no matter what I did, I couldn't make the large circle work for me on this layout.

Here is my take:

I made the corner embellishment and journaling all one thing instead of adding another embellishment in addition to the journaling box.

I didn't want to clutter it up much.. I wanted this to be a clean layout.

I LOVE the Thickers I used for the title here. They are the vinyl "poolside" ones (Thank you Big Lots! LOL)

Instead of doing that bigger circle around the layout... I decided to accent two of the corners with circles following the shape of the corner... (I just used a regular hole punch and the paper that is under the title for this)

Thanks for looking!

Wheel Obsessed...

I tried a different challenge blog today... one I've seen before but never tried.

Scrap the Boys

June challenge is "Boys and their toys"
the twist was you had to use black, red and ONE other color.

I chose white as my 3rd color. But there is soo much blue in the photos that it adds that pop without having to use another paper :)

I also used this for another challenge on the Scrap Queen message board - one of the challenges was to do a layout in 30 minutes or less.

These photos have been sitting on my table since 52 sketches was on week 5.... (they are on week 24 now LOL) I just couldn't get these on paper.

Today however they just went on soo fast and before I knew it 20 minutes went by and I had a layout done start to finish!

I'm lovin' that layouts have been so easy for me to complete lately... maybe I am just not thinking as hard about them as I usually do... I don't know but I'm happy that it's happening that way!

Wooo hooo! It came today!

My prize pack from Studio Calico came!!

The Scenic Route Garden Grove Collection! Super fun papers! I can't wait to use them!

Thank you Studio Calico!!!

Sketch 22 :)

Sketch 22 over at 52 sketches 52 weeks

I didn't stick directly with the sketch... which always pleases me when I don't have to stay with it exactly. When I am able to use the sketch as a starting point without copying it completely I always feel like the layout is more me than the sketch designer.

Here is my take on it... this is one of my favorite recent photos of my son... he cracks me up :)

This was a very quick layout to put together.. maybe 15 minutes total...

I wasn't going to try to fit this one in this week... but the prize pack is too enticing to pass up a chance for it... this weeks pack is the Snorkel Collection from Cosmo Cricket.. and I've been wanting that one for awhile now :)

LOL.

Have a great week!

if monkey.... could talk

I made this one yesterday afternoon... and am loving it.

This is my son's (22 months old)other half, his precious monkey... this was a gift he received from my nephew (his cousin) when he was born it was from the hospital gift shop... we have never found an exact one like it... no other monkey compares (and believe me we have tried a lot of them!!)

He carries this poor thing everywhere... and makes impossible to give it a good wash - so monkey is pretty gross most of the time. LOL.

I am super excited on how this one turned out (there was no planning... just found some paper that I finally liked to go with these photos and it just fell together and was completed during Nick's nap - which only lasted about 45 minutes...) The only thing I am not pleased with is the journaling.. the pen and I were having issues and it was not writing evenly like it usually does... looks like it's time for a new pen lol.

The brown sheet with monkey all over it is just cardstock. I stamped the word monkey on it with foam alpha stamps. I didn't try to be neat or straight with it... I like how it turned out with the little lines and things from the edges of the foam squares.

Also the border piece was traced a cut out using on the the Bazzill Basics Edge borders... the ones I have were not the right color for this project. I traced on and cut it out, however I didn't cut out the open spaces in each oval.

Products used:

DCWV cardstock
Imaginisce patterned paper (Number Cruncher -- one that I received in Megan Klauer's giveway - see post below this- Thanks Megan!!!)
Pink Paislee flower
Thickers (poolside vinyl letters)

The last 2 photos are how I attempt to get shots of my layouts... about half of the shots always have a red head of hair in the bottom corner of them... he loves to admire himself on the pages :) and today was even better because monkey was on there too. LOL

I'm a lucky gal!!

We've been having such a rough couple of weeks here at our house. Lots of things going on with my little guy, which has resulted in little sleep, lots of frustration, some very long days and no scrapping getting done.

So like I do whenever I don't get to scrap... I lurk on everyone else's blogs and live vicariously through them as they scrap away :) and if there are giveaways online, I enter and then forget about them....

I have been entering them for several years.. and never won.

This year however I have already won one giveaway from Jill at A Matter Of Memories
plus the scrapbook.com prize pack from one of the hourly challenges on NSBD ( previous post)

So I was super excited about that, especially since money has been tight these days (especially with me not working) I haven't been able to buy any scrap supplies... so the other day when I found out I won THIS giveaway from Megan Klauer
I was even more excited... then after I emailed her my address she emailed me back to tell me congrats on winning the Studio Calico giveaway... holy geez, I'm on cloud nine right now.

It's like Christmas at my house for me right now!!!

I just can't get over the generosity soo many scrappers have to offer up these awesome giveaways... soon I am going to have to put something together as a giveaway.. to pay all of this forward to someone else.

Megan -- Thanks again!! It came today... and seriously I was like a little kid ripping into a box from under the Christmas tree when it came!

I LOVE IT!!

This is what was included!

1 12x12 sheet of each of the following papers from the Teacher's Pet line:
Wipe that up!
Welcome to Room 10!
{no} passing notes!
My new pencil box
When's Recess?
Number Cruncher
Teacher Talk Rub-ons
School Notes acyrlic stamp

Sketch 19 and a double page layout :)

So I got a little time to work on some layouts... lol in over a month and a half I got ONE layout done and in the last 3 days.. well I've gotten 3 done :)

I haven't been keeping up very good with the sketches at 52 sketches 52 weeks -- so I am a bit behind but here is Sketch #19

And here is my take on the sketch. I'm quite pleased with this layout. It came together without much thought, time or products and still is pleasing to the eye (at least my eye anyway!!!!)

Here is a double page layout I did yesterday... I've had these photos sitting on the table since January and just couldn't seem to get them scrapped.

I'm not 100% pleased with this layout... but I am not disappointed with it either!

Thanks for stopping by to look!

baby bird

Hello all! Just popping in to post a layout, I haven't done one for awhile that wasn't for a challenge or a sketch site... so here is just a plain old layout LOL

I promise it is straight (the polka dot paper) the way I had it propped up to photo it was not the best and the paper kept curving weird... my fault, should have had it set up better. LOL

I didn't have letter stickers or chipboard letters that I liked for this one. So I pulled out my old foam alpha's. Stamped the letters on Kraft paper, and cut them out :)

Friday, May 8, 2009

Sheesh... another one bites the dust?!?!

This isn't one of the ones that I would typically buy, but sheesh... the second one to go in such a short time....

First Simple Scrapbooks, now....

Memory Makers Magazine To Shut Down

Scrapbook Update has received from a reliable source a copy of a statement by F+W Media president Sara Domville announcing that Memory Makers Magazine will cease publication after the magazine's Sept/Oct 2009 issue. Domville indicates the economy and other factors are to blame:

The passion and dedication of the Memory Makers staff and contributors needs to be noted and commended, but in light of severe advertising cut backs, economic conditions, and lack of new consumers coming to the hobby, we cannot continue to publish the magazine on- or offline profitably. Unfortunately, this closure means the departure of several of our colleagues.

Please allow me to publicly thank Executive Editor Beth Williams, Managing Editor Katie Hilbert, and Advertising Representative Karen Crisp for their vision, enthusiasm, and tireless efforts on behalf of the magazine and the Company. Each has agreed to stay on through the transition expected to be complete by end of June. Please join me in wishing them well in their future endeavors.

The statement also notes that the magazine's closure will not affect the operations of the company's book publishing or Great American Scrapbook Convention operations.

The reference to the company considering an online version of the magazine is not a surprise to anyone who saw the survey that the magazine did earlier this spring (which was noted on Scrapbook Update) in which it questioned customers extensively about their willingness to pay for a digital version of the magazine.

The closure of Memory Makers unfortunately a shock to those who've been watching closely the state of the scrapbook magazines. As I wrote on Scrapbook Update a month ago in the same article that discussed Memory Makers' digital survey:

Memory Makers is arguably in the weakest position of the "mass market" scrapbooking magazines at the moment. Their advertising content percentage has been the smallest of any of the surviving scrapbook magazines (Creating Keepsakes, PaperCrafts and Scrapbooks Etc.) in the past several issues. The 2008 USPS circulation statements showed them having the smallest circulation of the 4 mass-market magazines. They need some help, like many magazines across all areas of publishing.

Memory Makers' last few issues have only contained between 15-19% paid ad content. The last (May/June) issue was boosted back to a healthy 40% by the inclusion of a large section advertising the company's own book club, but obviously that is only a temporary measure and not a viable continuing operational model.

To compare, most of the scrapbook magazines in their healthier years contained about 40% paid ad content. Simple Scrapbooks and Digital Scrapbooking were shut down when their ad content had sunk to neighborhood of 20%. So at 15%, Memory Makers has arguably been on life support for awhile.

So who's next?

Giveaway at Life, One Layout at a Time

Another BIG giveaway going on!

This time it's over at Life, One Layout at a Time!

Instead of me trying to type out what she has going on... I've just copied and pasted directly from Danielle's blog

Tuesday, May 5, 2009

What are you inspired by?

I have not been getting much scrapping done lately... not because I'm in a rut, or stuck or have lost my mojo.. but because I have simply am not having the chance lately.

My scraproom is in the basement, which is still not "Nicholas Ready". LOL

So I have been trying when I can to organize the mess I have going down there and make a little section of our bedroom work as a mini work station.. so on these weeks that Nicholas hardly naps, I can still work on some things.

I have been able to go through my old scrap magazines that I haven't looked at in forever **

I have also been able to catch up on some blogs that I love, as well as the galleries at scrabook.com and two peas.

Today I found this layout by Emily Pitt's on twopeas and I LOVE it.

Go check out mlpea's gallery - she has some gorgeous layouts!!

I love the simplicity of the layout and I LOVE her waves. I NEED that punch now!! LOL
